Hardware 2015 Part 4

If you are an Apple household, you will probably want to kit the kids out with Apple tablets. I have had a look at the line-up of tablets that might suit little hands yet can run a wide range of educational and fun apps. So here are my candidates listed with some basic features and their current RRPs.

Notes

  1. All prices in Australian dollars; available models from official Apple shop; prices as at June, 2015
  2. All these models run iOS 8.
  3. All have Wifi capacity but not cellular access as this adds greatly to the cost and not something that most parents would want their primary school age kids to be running wild on and racking up big bills.

I have included the iPod even though it is a bit outside the parameters I have laid down. The 5th generation model now has a decent processor and improved screen resolution, and of course, it costs less than any iPad model. It can run iOS 8 and should run most of the apps in the Apple store. Its small size means it may not be the best for full blown movies, but it may be more comfortable for kids especially in space restricted situations like in the back seat of a car.

So there we have my picks – a pure Android tab, a Windows/Android hybrid and an Apple tab rundown.
