NOTE: Scientific names

This site uses the standard convention for citing species name. A scientific name has two parts - the genus name and the species name. e.g. Sus scrofa is the scientific name of the wild boar. Genus goes first and must be capitalised. Species name goes second and must not be capitalised. Both parts of the name are in italics. Once the full name has been mentioned once, the genus name can just be contracted to the first letter, followed by a full stop.
